In order to allow the construction of the two new arteries and to free the archaeological remains of ancient Rome from the buildings, entire neighborhoods were razed to the ground.
The photo highlights them in purple.
Over 10,000 people were forced to move their residence to the suburbs on the outskirts.
This forced move was often the result of an individual or palace negotiation.
Sometimes, however, they were real deportations as we see in the photo on the left. The black shirts (the fascists) control the deportation operations in order to intervene if necessary.
